Clemmie is an experienced director and dramaturg, with a keen interest in new writing.
She has directed the classics, Shakespeare and new plays. Recent work includes dramaturgy on World Premiere of John Clare: THE MADHOUSE SESSIONS and directing the play as part of The Camden Fringe in 2025. In 2024 she directed her new play THEODORA at the Courtyard Theatre with the MA students from Drama Studio London and her new adaptation of THE JOLLY POSTMAN, in a production at the OSO Arts Centre. In 2023 she was Director and Dramaturg on a new comedy for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival written by Paul Westwood entitled AN AFTERNOON WITH THE LADIES OF THE CLIFF RICHARD FAN CLUB, SUTTON COLDFIELD, 1995 which played at the Assembly Rooms throughout the festival as well as performances in Birmingham, on tour and in London. She is currently working as Dramaturg and writing Additional Material for a Patrick Barlow project with Sonia Friedman Productions.
Clemmie is an experienced Dramaturg and work includes Shakespeare’s Globe, BBC Radio 4, Sonia Friedman Productions, and regularly with writer Patrick Barlow, and director Lucy Bailey. She is currently a Reader for the Bruntwood Prize and for Sonia Friedman Productions.
Further directing work includes Assistant Director and Dramaturg on MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, working with director Lucy Bailey at Shakespeare’s Globe (2022) with whom she has a long association as assistant and Associate. She directs at the Drama Studio London (CYMBELINE, THE HUNT, DESIGN FOR LIVING, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE) and directed the graduate production of BLUE STOCKINGS for the Bridge Theatre Training Company. She has been Associate Director on the award-winning production of WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (directed by Lucy Bailey) at London County Hall regularly since 2018.
In Summer 2021 she directed two of Alan Ayckbourn’s THE NORMAN CONQUESTS: TABLE MANNERS and ROUND AND ROUND THE GARDEN at Frinton Summer Theatre’s 80th celebration repertory season.
Clemmie previously directed a very successful production of Paul Westwood’s SKIN IN THE GAME, for which she was also Dramaturg, at Greenwich Theatre, Birmingham Festival, on tour and at the Old Red Lion, London in 2019.
In 2020 she adapted Patrick Barlow’s play STAR CHILD with Patrick for BBC Radio 4 for broadcast on Christmas Day starring Jim Broadbent and Sophie Thompson. Her dramaturgy also includes work on MONMOUTH and TEMPEST OF LYME by Andrew Rattenbury in 2017 and MUSCOVADO by Matilda Ibini in 2015.
